A Good Balance of Modern and Traditional Japanese Food

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to dine under the stars? Located just a stone throw away from the Marina Bay area, Akari offers a wide variety of different and contemporary Japanese dishes that is just the perfect place for a date. Personally, I have never been a huge fan of Japanese food, but the food here at Akari definitely hits the spot for me and I will definitely be back for more.


I was strongly recommended by their friendly staff to try their signature dishes, which include their Sashimi Platter, Grilled Eel with Teriyaki Sauce, Grilled Wagyu Beef, Japanese Braised Yam Jelly and Onyasai Salad. What struck me the most was their Sashimi Platter. I was impressed by the exquisiteness of the Sashimi Platter, which was beautifully arranged and garnished like an edible garden. Not just visually appealing, it brought forth a sense of joy as I relished in the delectable flavours of each component. The sashimi tasted very fresh too, and was thoughtfully served in bite-sized portions. I am also in love with their Grilled Wagyu Beef, which comes in a cut of A4 grade instead of the typical A5 grade which most restaurant use. It is grilled to perfection, with less fat and more bites to it. I would recommend having the sauce on the side instead of over the beef as it is already so good on its own.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Akari. The chef has definitely demonstrated finesse in the dishes and the prices are still kept affordable. If you’re looking to impress a first date, this is just the place for you. There is also an alfresco dining option available with an unobstructed view of the glorious Marina Bay.
