Ah Yat Abalone is an established household name in Singapore, with more than 20 years of experience serving abalone and a delectable spread of Chinese seafood dishes. At affordable prices, you can select from a wide array of exquisite seafood dishes and delightful dim sum treats. You can be assured that each dish is meticulously prepared using only the highest quality and fresh of ingredients by chefs with decades of experience under their belt. Situated at Victoria Street, I was instantly greeted and attended to by their ever-friendly staff when I paid the restaurant a visit.
As a Cantonese, I am delighted to know that they serve Cantonese-inspired cuisines too, with a huge display of live seafood aquariums where you can dictate your own menu. Eating at Ah Yat’s is quite nostalgic as it has a comforting and homely ambience. One of the dishes I ordered was the ‘Ah Yat Style Simmered Fish’. I was told that this was one of the chef’s most confident and favourite dish, and it definitely lived up to expectations. Using quality Goby fish, the fish is first semi pan-fried before simmering together with other ingredients such as tofu, bamboo fungus, ham gravy and the broth. Since the fish is almost fully cooked after pan-frying, it only needs to be simmered for 5 minutes. I also ordered their Fish Maw, which was not at all fishy and cooked to perfect jelly-like texture. Another dish that is worth mentioning is their creamy lobster poached in butter sauce. The sauce is made using lime, salted egg and some butter cream. Sounds weird, I know. But this combination worked surprisingly well and I am impressed. Still not quite full yet, I decided to order their Kurobuta Pork as well. This is definitely one of my favourite dishes. This dish is well marinated and pan-fried to perfection before drizzling their homemade specialty sauce. If there is one dish that you have to order when you’re here, this has to be it.

Ah Yat Abalone is definitely an ideal place for all occasions. A family-oriented restaurant, they also have VIP rooms fully equipped with KTV facilities for special functions like family gatherings, corporate functions or private events. I would strongly encourage you to make reservations in advance, as these rooms are often snapped up fully weeks or even months ahead.
