Crescent @ Kallang is a fairly nondescript industrial building. When I walked round the building I saw a wooden pavilion, plants in ornate pots, stone statutes and wooden outdoor furniture. I thought they belonged to a warehouse outlet for garden and outdoor decor. Only when I saw the signboard did I realize that I had arrived at the Yummy Recipes restaurant. The interior is also elaborately decorated to try to create the feel and atmosphere of an ancient Chinese eatery. I was there for lunch and ordered some of their signature dishes, which include Porb Ribs, XO Prawn Beancurd, Double Prosperity Baby Kailan and Olive Vegetable Fried Rice. The food was served promptly and the portions were generous. What stood out most for me was the Double Prosperity Baby Kailan. It was baby kailan cooked two ways – half stir fried while still being succulent and a little crunchy, while the other half was deep-fried until it was really crispy. It was definitely an interesting and enjoyable way to eat vegetables. The fried rice was rather delectable too. The addition of salted black olives gave the fried rice an interesting flavour. Apart from delicious food, their service was praise-worthy too.
